Kitesurfing is one of the many watersports available in Mauritius. The kitesurfing season in Mauritius begins in April and lasts until the end of November, with the majority of days being sunny. This is Mauritius’ winter/ dry season when the Southeast trade winds are blowing at approximately 15-25 knots. You should visit Mauritius during the dry season if you plan kitesurfing holidays. When it’s hot and humid, like in December through March, the strong winds die down, leaving only a lighter but still quite a steady breeze blowing from the southeast. Kitesurfing can be done in various places on the island, including Le Morne, Bel Ombre, Pointe d’Esny, Trou d’Eau Douce, and Ile-aux-Cerfs.
Where to do kitesurfing in Mauritius

Le Morne
Le Morne Morne is, without a doubt, the most well-known and cherished of all the kite spots on the island of Mauritius. This lovely flat water lagoon is a perfect site for beginners taking kitesurfing instruction, as well as for freestyle and free-riders who want to test their skills. Le Morne is also one of the most visited places on the island, famous for Le Morne Brabant and its beautiful beach.
Bel Ombre
Bel Ombre is a tranquil lagoon with plenty of room and excellent tiny waves to ride on the swells. Initially, the wind may be a little gusty, so use caution when launching, but once you go away from the shore, the wind becomes much more stable and consistent.
Pointe d’Esny
Pointe d’Esny, popularly known as Paradise Beach. It is well-known among the locals as one of the gorgeous stretches of white sand beach on the entire island and the best-preserved coral reef lagoon on the whole island. The beach at Pointe d’Esny is without a doubt a well-kept secret that deserves to be recognized as the best in the world.
Trou d’Eau Douce
With the favorable Southeast breeze and ideal circumstances, Trou d’Eau Douce is a fantastic place. Depending on the weather, the entire coastline is completely kite-able from April to November. The lagoon is large and broad, with enough space for everyone, and the water is primarily shallow and extremely clear. The rocks and coral may protrude from the water when the tides are too low, so keep an eye out for this. Most of the beachfront is wide enough to accommodate launching almost anywhere, particularly further east and closer to the reef.
Ile-aux-Cerfs
Ile-aux-Cerfs can be reached by speed boat or by joining one of the many catamaran cruises to the island, which is a mile or two away from the coast. Once your boat has docked, it’s a short walk to the beach that faces the southeast, and launch from there. It will be a fantastic upwind until you finally reach ‘Joyride,’ but the kite spot will be well worth the effort. You will get exclusive use of hundreds of square meters of shallow, completely flat water lagoon along the reef barrier for the day. Speed riding, trick practice, and freestyle are all possible with this board.
Kitesurfing schools in Mauritius
If you are new to kitesurfing there are plenty of kitesurfing schools dotted around Mauritius. Kitesurfing schools can be found in Le Morne, close to Grand Baie, Anse La Raie, Palmar, next to Belle Mare, and Bel Ombre.
Some kite schools are located within resort hotels, while others are not—all of them welcome non-residents. Check to see that the kite school you choose is an IKO (International Kiteboarding Organization) affiliated center before enrolling.
